8 Electrical Warning Signs You Should Not Ignore
Electrical problems often warn you before they turn dangerous. Know the signs.
Request an electrician1. Burning smell
Turn off the circuit if you can do it safely and call an electrician. If you see smoke or fire, get out and call 911.
2. Warm or discolored outlets
Stop using them until an electrician checks them.
3. Sparks
A small spark when plugging in can be normal; large or repeated sparks are not.
4. Buzzing
Outlets, switches or the panel should not buzz.
5. Flickering lights
On one fixture it may be the bulb; across the house it may be a wiring or service problem.
6. Breakers that keep tripping
See why does my breaker keep tripping.
7. Mild shocks
A tingle from an appliance or switch means current is going where it should not.
8. Loose outlets
Plugs that fall out mean worn contacts that can overheat. See outlets and wiring.
